Ethiopia’s year-on-year headline inflation edged lower to 7.4 percent in April from 7.5 percent the previous month, the country’s Statistical Agency said on Tuesday.Food inflation has increased by 6.3 percent, while the non-food inflation rose by 8.7 percent in April 2016, a statement by the agency indicated.
The rise in inflation in the non-food component is mainly due to the cost of khat, clothing and footwear, construction materials, firewood and household goods and furnishings, the agency added.
The month-on-month general consumer price index (CPI) for April 2016 showed a decline of 1.5 percent as compared to the preceding month.
The monthly inflation rate measures the price change between the two latest months.
